Bridal Gowns are traditionally based on the fashion styles of the day and time of year. Bridal gowns are usually white, creamy shades of ivory, eggshell or off white. In times gone past, white symbolised virginity, but in the wedding culture of today, it merely represents the most popular choice for bridal gowns, and not a statement of purity

Wedding dresses and bridal gowns are available in all price ranges, as well as a rainbow of colours, styles, and lengths. You can purchase ready made bridal gowns, have a designer create one just for you, or you can choose to have a dressmaker make the bridal dress of your dreams.

In medieval days, brides were expected to dress in a manner befitting their family status and wealth in society. In the most wealthy of families, brides wore bridal gowns in the boldest of colours, the most expensive of materials, with layers of fur, silk and velvet. Brides from the poorest families, wore their best church dress as their bridal gown. White bridal gowns weren't popular until the 1840's after the marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe-Coburg. Because the wedding photo was widely published , it was copied by brides of that era as with fashion today.

In the 1920s, bridal dresses were typically short in the front with a longer train in the back and were worn with cloche-style wedding veils. In the 1940's long full skirted bridal gowns were popular. Tradionally bridal gown designs are popular for a period of time and then change as fashion changes. Todays modern brides are not necessarily following the trends of the past. Theme weddings are popular although white weddings are still the most popular today.

An old but lovely tradition. "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, sixpence in her shoe” Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity; and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity.
