Bridal Gowns are traditionally based on fashion styles of the day and time of year. More than not, bridal gowns are usually white, although this can include creamy shades of ivory, eggshell and off white. White was intended to symbolise virginity, although in todays modern society, it merely represents the most popular choice for weddings, not necessarily a statement of virginity.

Wedding dresses and bridal gowns are available in all price ranges, as well as a rainbow of colours, styles, and lengths. You can purchase ready made bridal gowns, have a designer create one for you, or you can choose to have a dressmaker make the bridal dress of your choice.

In medieval days, brides were expected to dress in a manner befitting their family status and wealth in society. The more wealthy, wore bridal gowns in the boldest of colours and the most expensive of materials, with layers of fur, silk and velvet. Brides from the poorest families, wore their best church dress to their wedding. White bridal gowns didn't become popular until the 1840's after the marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe-Coburg. The wedding photo was widely published and so as with fashion today, it was copied by brides of that era.

In the 1920s, wedding dresses were typically short in the front with a longer train in the back and were worn with cloche-style wedding veils. In the 1940's long full skirted bridal gowns were popular. Tradionally bridal gown designs are popular for a period of time and then change as fashion changes. Todays modern brides are not necessarily following the trends of the past.

An old but lovely tradition. "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, sixpence in her shoe” Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity; and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity.
